The Oliver (Offices and Event Space- 2715 Georgia Avenue)

2715 Georgia Avenue houses the commercial, office, and event space in The Oliver. Opened in 2024, the Oliver is a 141,689 square feet residential and commercial mixed-use facility. It features 93 residential apartments and 41,000 square feet of office space, used by Howard's Offices of University Communications and Development and Alumni Relations. It was awarded a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification in 2025 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the world’s most widely used green building rating system in recognition of the use of sustainable practices in construction and operations, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and site development. The building features a large event space on the lower level of the commercial area. 

About the Buidling Name 

The Oliver is named after General Oliver Otis Howard, for whom Howard University is also named. A Union officer during the Civil War, he was Medal of Honor winner. After the war, he was appointed head of the Freedman's Bureau, which was charged with supporting former slaves as they integrated into mainstream America as free people. He was one of the founders of the Howard Normal and Theological Institute for the Education of Teachers and Preachers, which was shortly thereafter chartered by the United States Congress and became Howard University.
