Third Howard University Opioid Symposium for Pharmacists and Healthcare Professionals
About this Event
The Third Howard University Opioid Symposium for Pharmacists and Healthcare Professionals, focuses on the critical theme of "Addressing Racial Disparities in Pain Management and Opioid Analgesia - The Role of the Pharmacist in Improving Best Practices." This symposium, which will be conducted as a virtual live event with live streaming, has been made possible through a grant awarded by the Opioid Analgesic REMS Program Companies (RPCs). It is our commitment to ensure that the Continuing Education Activities offered during this event fully align with the Opioid Analgesic REMS education requirements set forth by the US Food and Drug Administration.
In collaboration with the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), this symposium aims to bring together experts and professionals in the field to address pivotal issues surrounding opioid usage and pain management. We have designed a comprehensive agenda that delves into the critical topic of Opioid Disorder and the pervasive racial and ethnic disparities that communities of color face when seeking treatment. Furthermore, we will explore the unique challenges and regulations within the District of Columbia that often hinder access to essential treatment.
Our faculty presenters are:
- Dr. Rebecca Hernandez, PharmD, BCPS
- Dr. Adaku Ofoegbu, PharmD, PhD
- Dr. Jasmine Carpenter, PharmD, BCPP, BCPS
Our esteemed panel of experts includes:
1. Dr. Richard Schottenfeld - Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Howard University College of Medicine
2. Addiction Medicine Fellows from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Howard University College of Medicine:
- Dr. Alice Buckley
- Dr. Asha Neptune
- Dr. Morgan Nowlin
This symposium serves as a platform for thought-provoking discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaborative efforts aimed at improving the quality of care, particularly in addressing racial disparities in pain management and opioid analgesia. We invite pharmacists and healthcare professionals to join us for this vital event, where we will collectively strive to make a positive impact on our healthcare practices and the well-being of our diverse patient populations.
This event will provide 4 Continuing Education hours for pharmacists.
