It is 1836 in the heat of summer. Overnight, three daughters and their mother are now in mourning. What is a mistress turned widow and three eligible young women going to do now? THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND is set in Faubourg Tremé, New Orleans, Louisiana.  The story unfolds within a 24-hour period as these free women of color unearth their history, envision their future, and consider their legacy.

THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND asks the question, what do we do with the information that gets excavated? The production is ingrained with music and chants that highlight the African heritage. The story explores various themes from multiple cultures and mixed races that challenge how we define, manage, and view relationships, freedom, wealth, and financial independence. Although this play discusses grave subject matters, audiences will enjoy the wit and comedic relief.

THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND is directed by Nicole Brewer. This production includes musical direction by Amadou Kouyate and choreography by Royce Zackery. The design and creative team includes Nadir Bey (scenic), Alberto Segarra (lighting), Brandee Mathies (costumes), Thom Woodward (sound). Properties are being designed by students in the Stagecraft courses within the department.
