This annual showstopper featuring the University’s Divine Nine showing off their creativity and precision through step.

Howard University’s Homecoming Greek Step Show is one of the world’s most extraordinary wonders. Stepping, especially as performed by Black Greek-lettered organizations in America, are part entertainment, part history lesson, part ancestral homage, and part prideful boast. The blend of military precision, acrobatics, rhythm, song, and chant is a testament to generations of achievement and struggle. Put simply, stepping is Black America’s gift to the world, made famous by the “Divine Nine” fraternities and sororities, five of which were founded at Howard. The Yard is stepping’s natural home.

You’ll travel on a journey through time, from the rituals of the motherland through the pain of the African diaspora to the triumph of education over oppression. Rethink your definition of possibilities as you witness performances made possible through extraordinary dedication, dexterity, and determination, and the manifestation of unbreakable bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.

Marking the 100th anniversary of Howard's Homecoming, the 2024 Howard University Homecoming will be held October 13-20, 2024. The Howard vs. Lincoln University game in 1924 set a trend which sparked a national phenomenon, and since that time, HBCU Homecomings have become an American treasure. With its unique blend of historical homage, affirming engagement, jaw-dropping entertainment, and cultural evolution, the Howard Homecoming experience perpetually draws tens of thousands who revel in the university’s societal and intellectual influence. The Howard Homecoming 100 theme, “Yard of Fame” not only spotlights the leaders and trendsetters who walked the campus as Howard students and faculty before gaining international fame and prominence in almost every area of human endeavor, but also celebrates the trails to be blazed by the future alumni who are Howard students today along with the Bison who will follow in their footsteps tomorrow. The week of student, alumni, and community events is an experience that fosters connection and inspiration while honoring the university’s ongoing leadership in truth and service that changes the world.
